July 22, 2020—New York is investing $750 million to build charging stations and other electric vehicle infrastructures, reports Reuters.
According to the report, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday that the state has created an investment program that will allocate $750 million to build charging stations and other EV infrastructures as part of the state's long-term goal to reduce emissions.
The goal is set to create more than 50,000 charging stations in the state, according to the report. New York's announcement comes after a similar measure taken by Florida, which recently announced it plans to invest $8.6 million to expand charging stations.
While electric vehicle sales have gradually increased over the past few years, they still made up less than 2% of all U.S. vehicle sales in 2019, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.
