Oct. 15, 2020—A new consumer survey has found that car owners are shifting more toward DIY repair for their vehicles instead of visiting a repair shop.

According to the CarParts.com Car Ownership Survey, car owners that are opting to go the DIY route instead of visiting a repair shop grew by 11 percent. Pre-pandemic, car owners choosing to go to an auto repair shop was at 42 percent and dropped to 31 percent in the time the survey was conducted.

The report also found that the pandemic is causing 37 percent of those surveyed to delay professional vehicle repairs until the pandemic situation improves.

However, the largest increase found in the survey was observed among respondents who changed their minds about buying or leasing a vehicle (31 percent).

The CarParts.com Car Ownership Survey is based on an online survey conducted among a sample of 2,310 consumers from July 30 to Aug. 5, 2020.
