Jan. 13, 2021
With BrightDrop, General Motors will use electric vehicles to offer a slate of delivery and logistics services.

Jan. 13, 2021—General Motors has announced one of its newest businesses, BrightDrop, according to a press release.

The venture will offer a variety of first-to-last-mile electric products, software and services designed to help delivery and logistics companies move their products more efficiently.

The BrightDrop EP1, the business' first product to market which will be available early this year, will be a propulsion-assisted, electric pallet designed to move products over short distances. The EP1 will feature built-in electric hub motors, will be maneuverable in tight spaces and have a payload capacity of 200 pounds.

The BrightDrop EV600, an electric light commercial vehicle built for the delivery of goods over long ranges, will combine zero-emissions driving and will be available to order starting in early 2022. With an Ultium battery system, the EV600 is targeted to have an estimated range of up to 250 miles on a full charge and a peak charge rate of up to 170 miles of EV range per hour via 120kW DC fast charging.

An EP1 pilot program with FedEx Express has already been completed and FedEx Express is also slated to be the first customer of the EV600, receiving their vehicles later this year.
