Feb. 19, 2013—The majority of Floridians approve of a proposal in the state legislature to help convert commercial fleet vehicles from traditional fuels to natural gas, according to a survey released by the Florida Natural Gas Vehicle Coalition (FNGVC).
The popular opinion survey found that 72 percent of Floridians approved of the proposal as part of an effort to decrease U.S. reliance on imported oil, create jobs and improve air quality.
The survey also found that 96 percent of respondents believe it is important to promote energy independence in the U.S. and an additional 95 percent believe it is important to protect Florida’s environment.
House Bill 597 has been introduced in the Florida House of Representatives and Senate Bill 560 has its first committee stop in the Transportation Committee later this month. The bill would encourage commercial fleet owners to invest in new natural gas vehicles through grants administered by the Office of Energy at the Florida Department of Agriculture.
