IMR Releases Updated BEV and HEV Impact Data

IMR Inc. interviewed 500 independent repair shops on the topic of battery electric vehicle and hybrid vehicles.

Aug. 17, 2022—Automotive-market research firm IMR Inc. has released updated information regarding the impact of battery electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles on independent repair shops.

According to a press release, IMR interviewed 500 independent repair shops in the United States about this topic between the dates of June 1, 2022 and June 30, 2022.

Some of the key data that IMR gathered includes the following:

  • 41.9% of shop owner respondents foresee BEVs and HEVs impacting business in the next two years. When asked this question last year, 55.1% said that they foresaw the impact in the next decade. 
  • This year, 55% of respondents said that there is a portion of their business dedicated to BEV repair. 
  • Last year, 27.5% of respondents said that they invested in the proper equipment to service BEVs and HEVs. This year, 42.4% have reported taking this action for their shop.
  • Last year, 30.5% of respondents said that they had invested in BEV and HEV training opportunities for their technicians. This year, that percentage has gone up to 42.4%.
