Aug. 12, 2014—Mitchell 1 named James Truxal of New Carlisle, Ohio, the 2014 Educator of the Year during the North American Council of Automotive Teachers (NACAT) conference, the company announced Monday.

Truxal is an associate professor of automotive technology at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio, where he has been teaching since 1994. He has maintained ASE Master and Advanced level Specialist certifications as well as GM and Honda certifications.
His credentials allow him to teach in the GM Automotive Service Educational Program (ASEP) and the Honda Professional Automotive Career Training (PACT) programs, while he currently serves as the coordinator for the Honda PACT program at his school, along with serving on other committees.
The annual conference, held this year July 21–25 in Greenville, S.C., features one teacher recognized by Mitchell 1 every year for their contribution to automotive repair instruction each year.
To qualify for the Mitchell 1 Educator of the Year award a master automotive technician must excel on all ASE automotive tests, including A1 – A8 for engine repair, automatic transmission and transaxle, manual drive train and axles, suspension and steering, brakes, electrical and electronic systems, heating and air conditioning and engine performance, in addition to the L1 – the advanced engine performance exam.
