Mesothelioma Victims Center to Focus on Auto Professionals

Jan. 29, 2015

Jan. 29, 2015—The Mesothelioma Victims Center has increased its efforts in reaching out to more auto manufacturing, auto repair, auto brake, and auto/truck clutch technicians, the organization recently announced.

Mesothelioma is common among these types of workers who specialized and worked in the industry from 1950 to the late 1980s, a time period when asbestos was commonly used in parts.

"We put auto mechanics, auto brake technicians, and auto clutch repair technicians who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma at the top of our priority list as there are so many of them out there,” the center said in a release. “In conjunction with this, we are also spreading the word about manufacturing workers who built cars or trucks during this time period, as a great number of them had daily exposure as well.

"OSHA has a current list of regulations on the topic of asbestos related to auto brake or clutch repair on their website, but what is not there is a section on workers developing mesothelioma who were in the industry between the 1950s and 1980s. We're talking about millions of US citizens exposed to asbestos while at a manufacturing facility building cars or trucks, or they were exposed to asbestos while replacing brakes or clutches. We want to make certain these types of people get the best possible compensation if they have been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called mesothelioma."
