Report: Volkswagen’s Proposed Fix Rejected

Jan. 13, 2016

Jan. 13, 2016—Volkswagen’s proposed fix for most of its vehicles involved in its emissions scandal has been rejected by U.S. and California regulators, according to a report by USA Today.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resources Board (CARB) said independently that they had rejected Volkswagen’s proposal for 2-liter diesel cars.

"The proposed plans contain gaps and lack sufficient detail," CARB said in a statement, according to USA Today. "The descriptions of proposed repairs lack enough information for a technical evaluation; and the proposals do not adequately address overall impacts on vehicle performance, emissions and safety."

"EPA agrees with CARB that Volkswagen has not submitted an approvable recall plan to bring the vehicles into compliance and reduce pollution. EPA has conveyed this to the company previously," said the EPA, according to the report.
