FCA U.S. Ceases Use of Takata Airbag Inflators

June 23, 2016

June 23, 2016—Fiat Chrysler Automobiles U.S. announced Tuesday that it will cease NAFTA-market production of vehicles equipped with non-desiccated ammonium-nitrate Takata air-bag inflators by next week.

Unsold vehicles that are equipped with these airbags will be identified to customers. Customers will also be informed that the vehicles will be recalled in the future.

The NHTSA has recalled vehicles with these Takata inflators, which can degrade over time with exposure to humidity and deploy with excessive force.

FCA expects global production will end by mid-September.
