Oregon Students Take Top Prize in Ford/AAA Technician Competition

June 12, 2013

June 12, 2013—Two Oregon high school students won the title of national champion Tuesday at the annual Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills National Finals in Michigan.

Logan Boyle and Cody Collins from Vale High School in Vale, Ore., were named the top high school technicians after competing against two-person teams from every state.

This is the second time in the last three years the Vale team has won at a national level.

Boyle and Collins will receive multiple scholarship options to different automotive programs, including $25,000 scholarships to the Automotive Training Center and the University of Northwestern Ohio.

The competition challenged junior and high school students to solve “real world” automotive challenges, both digital and mechanical, in a timed competition.

To earn the national title, Vale High School earned a “perfect car” score by repairing all of the purposefully placed “bugs” on the vehicle.
