Texas Sues VW

Oct. 12, 2015

Oct. 12, 2015—Volkswagen’s legal troubles due to its recent emissions violation admission continue to grow as the automaker now faces lawsuits from individual states, beginning with Texas, according to a report by USA Today.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against VW and Audi of America citing breaches of Texas’ consumer protection law. A separate lawsuit was also filed against VW alleging that VW violated the state’s clean air laws.

The suit stems from Volkswagen's admission to rigging diesel-powered cars in the U.S. to beat emissions tests. In Texas, the total amount of rigged cars amounted to 32,000.

"For years, Volkswagen intentionally mislead consumers about the environmental and performance qualities of the vehicles they sold in Texas," said Paxton in a statement, according to the report. "When companies willfully violate the public's trust, a penalty must be paid, and we will hold these entities responsible."

Other state attorneys are believed to be looking into VW’s violations as well.
