Sept. 15, 2014—The Tire Industry Association announced recently that Captain Mark Kelly, commander of the Space Shuttle Edeavor’s final mission, will be the motivational speaker at its 2015 OTR Conference, Feb. 18-21 at the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa in Tucson, Ariz.
Kelly will give his speech Feb. 20.
"We couldn't be more excited to hear Captain Kelly's story. He is a true American hero who exemplifies leadership and courage and his story is sure to inspire OTR attendees. We are in for a real treat," said TIA Executive Vice President Roy Littlefield.
Kelly is an American astronaut, retired U.S. Navy Captain, best-selling author, prostate cancer survivor, and an experienced naval aviator who flew combat missions during the Gulf War. Kelly was selected as an astronaut in 1996 and he flew his first of four missions in 2001 aboard Space Shuttle Endeavor, the same space shuttle that he commanded on its final flight in May 2011.
Kelly became the center of international attention after the January 2011 assassination attempt on his wife, former U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
