Sept. 8, 2016—On Wednesday, Michigan’s state Senate unanimously approved a legislation to develop self-driving cars, according to a report by Automotive News.
The bill would allow autonomous vehicles to be driven in the state for any reason, not only for testing. The legislation would permit a computer system to act as the driver of a vehicle when the system is active, extend liability protections to mechanics who work on automated and authorized in statute the planned American Center for Mobility at the former GM Willow Run facility, according to the report.
Each part of the four-package bill cleared the senate 36-0. It now moves to the House for consideration, reports Automotive News.
