April 13, 2018—Hyundai Mobis recently opened a parts design research center referred to as the Design Model Workshop, in an effort to boost its design competitiveness, according to a report by just-auto.com.

The design center includes a clay model maker and power-based 3-D printer, according to Hyundai. The auto manufacturer hopes to create parts that can be more easily integrated with OEM design engineering.

Hyundai Mobis says it has invested nearly 3 billion won in the design center, which sits on 432 square meters of land in its overall research property in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province in South Korea.

Hyundai Mobis feels that creating parts at the new center will likely involve designers at the center starting with a model of a vehicle, which is expected to enhance product quality, as well as the work environment for designers who had previously used computer-based processes.
