April 26, 2018—According to a recent Lang Aftermarket iReport, the number of car and light truck service bays has declined over the past five years (2011-2016), despite an increase in total service sales.

At mid-year 2016, approximately 8,000 fewer service bay were operated by outlets repairing cars and light trucks than during 2011.

The number of cars and light trucks per service bay in the U.S. continues to climb, increasing 12 percent between 2011 and 2016. Lang says this is a result of fewer bays available to repair the increasing number of cars and light trucks on U.S. roads.

The solution to this vehicle repair challenge, Lang says, has been an increase in the annual product sales per service bay. Annual product volume per light vehicle service bay in the U.S. climbed more than $10,000 between 2011 and 2016.
