Allstate Data Shows Most Vehicles Need Towing after Breakdowns

Dec. 23, 2013

Dec. 23, 2013—Allstate Roadside Services unveiled data showing 55 percent of its customer calls pertaining to breakdowns require towing to a repair shop because of mechanical problems.

"The holidays are a busy time for families,” said Anthony Royer, president of Allstate Roadside Services. “As they run here and there to shop and prepare their homes, they may forget about preparing the car before traveling.”

The other 45 percent of calls includes non-tow incidences such as tire changes, lockouts, jumpstarts, and fuel delivery. Here’s a breakdown of Allstate’s non-tow dispatches:

  • 3.6 percent are from drivers who have run out of gas and need fuel delivered to their vehicle.
  • 14.4 percent are for tire changes.
  • 14 percent are for lockouts.
  • 13 percent are for jumpstarts

Allstate Roadside also revealed that more calls come in during the week than the weekend, with most dispatches happening on Mondays.
