Nov. 26, 2018— Metro Community College in Omaha, Neb., plans to invest $32.5 million into a new facility to train vehicle mechanics on its south Omaha campus, The Bellingham Herald reports. According to The Bellingham Herald, the space includes a 100,000 square-foot, two-story expansion for both its auto technology and auto collision programs.

According to Al Cox, the coordinator for Metro's auto technology department, the auto programs roster of 290 students pushes capacity, The Bellingham Herald reports. Students who are involved in the program receive hands-on training and work for local dealerships, the publication reports.

The new building will have more classrooms, faculty offices, and bays for students to work on. In addition, the facility will also feature a "dealer-style automotive showroom," according to The Bellingham Herald

The two-year college's plan must still be approved by the State Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education, according to The Bellingham Herald.
