Apple's AVs on Calif. Roads Decreases

Apple has 69 autonomous cars permitted to test on public roads in Calif., along with 110 drivers eligible to operate the vehicles.

April 25, 2019—9to5Mac reports that Apple has reported a drop in autonomous vehicles this month, according to the company's files done at the California DMV. Prior to the new results, Apple steadily increased the number autonomous vehicles on the road throughout 2018.

Apple has 69 autonomous cars permitted to test on public roads in Calif., along with 110 drivers eligible to operate the vehicles. The numbers, however, are down this last month, as Apple reports that now 72 vehicles can be tested on the road and 144 drivers.

9to5Mac released a comparison of how Apple holds up against other competition:

  1. GM Cruise: 163 vehicles and 989 drivers
  2. Waymo: 125 vehicles and 368 drivers
  3. Apple: 69 vehicles and 110 drivers
  4. Tesla: 47 vehicles and 136 drivers
