UTI and GM Create New Education Program

July 15, 2013

July 15, 2013—Universal Technical Institute (UTI) and General Motors Co. (GM) have joined forces to develop a 12-week elective training program for UTI students.

UTI, a post-secondary education provider for students seeking careers as professional automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle and marine technicians, will offer its students the opportunity to receive GM credentials through this 12-week program that could otherwise take years to earn in the field.

While UTI students have the opportunity to expand their education and make themselves more employable, the elective program will help provide GM with a steady flow of well-trained technicians to GM dealers and affiliates, according to a press release_notes.

The curriculum of this program will be developed in partnership between UTI, GM and Raytheon Professional Services (RPS), GM's training partner for the past 15 years and a global leader and provider of innovative training solutions.

"There is no doubt that this GM elective will be a rigorous program that includes some of the latest technology in Web-based learning, and it will prepare students for the way GM technicians perform in the dealership," said Russ O'Brien, executive director of North America operations at RPS.

The program will first be available at UTI's Avondale campus.
