July 18, 2019—SUNY Erie Community College in Orchard Park, N.Y., is expanding its Automotive Program to meet future industry standards and rising demand of auto repair workers, reports ABC 7 WKBW Buffalo.
Currently, the two-year program has approximately 200 enrolled students for the 2018-2019 school year, about 20 percent more than four years ago at the college, and is expected to grow even more over the next few years.
"It's constantly changing... we're coming into self-driving cars. So we're trying to stay with that curve with industry partners," says instructor Mike Coughlin.
The community college is working with the partners to find ways to modify its automotive tech programs to turn out more students at a faster pace, all while still ensuring all students are properly trained for the new standards.
