The national average for car maintenance and repair costs in the first year was $364.62.

July 30, 2019—GOBankingRates looked at the cost of owning a new car in each state, and found Georgia has the highest cost of annual maintenance and repairs.

The average annual car maintenance and repair costs add up to $395.05, followed by Connecticut with $393.16 and Hawaii with $389.19.

The lowest costs for the first year came from Michigan with $333.26, followed by Ohio with $335.26 and Maine with $337.74.
