Tech and Digital Drives Auto Industry Job Demand

Aug. 20, 2019

Auto companies, such as Nissan and Hyundai, are finding themselves wanting technologists and data scientists.

August 20, 2019—Automotive manufacturers are scouting for workers with tech and digital backgrounds, reports Money Control.

Companies like Nissan and Hyundai are looking for these qualities to prepare for the changing mobility needs for electric, connected and intelligent cars.

Even with the recession in the auto industry predicted to last for the next two to three quarters, experts believe the new job requirements will continue to shape the automotive industry.

The search for these skill sets outside of the auto industry comes after the government’s emphasis on BS-VI and electric mobility. As vehicles get internet-enabled, they will become part of a larger digital ecosystem, needing minimal to no human intervention, according to the report.

The new job skills include:

  • 3D printing technicians
  • AI and Machine Learning experts
  • Robot operators
  • Software and communication experts
  • Cybersecurity experts
  • Electrical and electronics engineers
  • Data scientists

While these skill sets are sought out, it is predicted that others will vanish. These include:

  • Electronic assemblers
  • Mechanical engineers
  • Inspectors and testers
  • Press, paint and weld jobs
  • Assemblers on the assembly line

According to experts, this demand for these new skills will not create enough jobs to replace the ones that the industry will lose.
