Changes Coming for ASRW, CARS

Oct. 21, 2013

Oct. 21, 2013—Automotive Service & Repair Week, which wrapped up Oct. 18 in Las Vegas, featured an increased emphasis on offerings for mechanical shop owners, and that focus is likely to increase as the annual show undergoes an overhaul for 2014.

ASRW 2013 began Oct. 17 with the Opening General Session/Mechanical Industry Forum. industry expert Kevin McCartney, longtime owner of Automotive Support Services in Fresno, Calif., and a leader in the areas of cooling, lubrication and filtration, led the event.

ASRW also featured the Congress of Automotive Repair & Service (CARS) expo, as well as a number of presentations and training sessions for mechanical shop owners.

In his free presentation, McCartney discussed the “Hidden Liabilities and Opportunities in Fluids and Lubricants.” In the talk, McCartney noted that, although oils can be recommended by the oil companies for multiple applications, many are not approved by any OEM.

“McCartney’s presentation demonstrates the quality of technical training available at ASRW,” said Dan Risley, ASA executive director. "It was just one example of ASRW’s commitment to offering valuable learning opportunities to help attendees sustain and grow their businesses."

In preparation for next year’s show, the Automotive Service Association (ASA) has announced the addition of a new strategic event planner, Stone Fort Group, to assist with the management, sales and marketing for the 2014 show, which will be held in Detroit.

Stone Fort Group co-founders, Sean Guerre and Brian Nessen, have more than 20 years of extensive trade show and conference experience.

“We … feel the new direction of ASA will allow us to revitalize the show as well as be innovative in delivering an enhanced show experience for exhibitors and attendees,” said Nessen.
