September 3, 2019—Tata Consultancy Services says the key driver for the automotive industry will be data science instead of the usual driver, engineering, reports Forbes.

Electrification, autonomous operation, and vehicle-sharing all contribute to a change in the automotive industry in a fundamental way. Sreenivasa Chakravarti, vice president of Tata Consultancy Services, says that while all three technologies are important, the discipline that will tie them together in the context of the auto industry is data.

Chakravarti believes the new technologies will have profound effects on the industry as it is currently structured. He says connectivity, electrification, autonomy and sharing as “forces of nature” in emerging scenarios.
