Update: Senate to Vote on USMCA

Jan. 6, 2020

The U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement has been approved by the House and has moved on to the Senate committee for a vote.

Jan. 6, 2020—The U.S. Senate Finance Committee will meet tomorrow to consider legislation to implement the new U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), the panel said in a statement on Friday, reports Reuters.

The U.S. House of Representatives signed off on the deal with Canada and Mexico on Dec. 19. Now, the agreement has moved on to the Senate. Approval by the Senate committee would clear the legislation for consideration by the full Senate.

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell has said the chamber would likely take up the agreement after an impeachment trial of the president.

The panel said it would meet at 9:30 a.m. EST.
