March 11, 2020—As the coronavirus (COVID-19) takes its toll on the U.S. and world economy, iexperts say the see it could cause auto parts to become scarce for auto repair shops, reports the Texarkana Gazette.
According to the Center for Automotive Research (CAR), China is behind only Mexico and Canada in the amount of imported auto parts sent to the United States. CAR notes that while most auto parts are still produced domestically, the nature of the global automotive supply chain, heavy reliance on China for parts production, and factory shutdowns will eventually send ripple effects to the U.S.
On top of this, China has become a major source for the electronics that control nearly every system in a modern car, which could also be impacted, according to the report.
