Tesla Using Car Parts to Make Ventilators

April 7, 2020
Workers at Tesla's New York gigafactory are working to help produce ventilators.

April 7, 2020—Telsa is one of a handful of manufacturers helping create important medical devices for the COVID-19 virus situation, reported CNETTesla's ventilator uses Tesla car parts.

According to the report, Tesla is working on a full-scale ventilator using parts from the Tesla Model 3. Workers at Tesla's gigafactory in New York are working on ventilator production.

The Tesla ventilator uses the Model 3 infotainment center's display touchscreen as a user interface for monitoring and the vehicle's infotainment motherboard as the chief computing system, driving valves controlling the flow of gases into the ventilator.

Ventilators are typically used in critical cases of COVID-19, where the lungs are filled with fluid and inflammatory cells preventing adequate oxygen exchange.
