April 27, 2020—CarMD has released its 2020 Vehicle Health Index, marking 10 years of reporting on check engine light repair trends, according to a press release.
According to the release, the Index finds that for the first time since CarMD has reported these rankings, “replace catalytic converter” was the most common check engine light repair. A repair that has become less common over the last decade is to tighten or replace a gas cap. The gas cap accounted for 9.2 percent of repairs in 2010; this past year it only accounted for 4.5 percent of repairs.
The top five most common problems found to trigger the check engine light in the Index were catalytic converter, oxygen sensor were, ignition coil and spark plug, gas cap, and mass air flow sensor.
