Kia Motors Corp said on Friday it is recalling more than 507,000 vehicles in the United States because an electronic glitch may prevent air bags from deploying in the event of a crash.
The NHTSA is opening a probe into why some air bags failed to deploy in Hyundai and Kia vehicles after crashes in which four people were reportedly killed and another six injured.
Ford and federal regulators are telling 2,900 owners of certain 2006 Ford Rangers to stop driving them and dispatching dealers to replace the trucks' Takata air bag inflators.
FCA reiterated that the need for repairing the recalled airbags is urgent, due to the fact that, if the Takata air bags explode, they could spray metal fragments into a vehicle, causing serious injury and even death.
More than half of the approximately 42 million recalled air bag inflators produced by Takata Corp. have yet to be replaced, according to a recent report.
