According to findings from Cox Automotive, consumer awareness of driverless vehicles has skyrocketed and the desire for autonomous features is high. However, those who believe roadways would be safer if all vehicles were fully autonomous has decreased 18 percentage points in just two years.
Consumers bought about 2.1 percent more vehicles for the month than a year earlier, according to Cox Automotive analysts. The stronger-than-expected first half caused Cox Automotive to increase its full-year sales forecast from 16.7 million vehicles to 16.8 million.
While visible light cameras, radar, and infrared sensors have been used by various engineering teams to build a physical map around a vehicle, the key component for most autonomous car platforms is LiDAR.
