Tesla Recalls Model 3 and Y Vehicles

June 9, 2021
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a report related to a brake caliper bolt issue.

June 9, 2021—A problem that is leading to low tire pressure is leading Tesla to recall around 6,000 Model 3 sedans and Model Y crossovers, Car and Driver reported.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report found that 2019-2021 Model 3 and 2020-2021 Model Y vehicles may have an issue with loose brake caliper bolts that might disassemble.

According to NHTSA, if a caliper were to "[make] contact with the inner surface of the wheel rim, the wheel may be prevented from freely rotating, which may cause loss of tire pressure," meaning the tire is likely to drag along the road until it pops and loses air pressure. NHTSA's report says that owners might be able to hear the caliper making contact with the wheel.
