July 29, 2019—After a deadly crash in San Francisco involving a Tesla, an investigation found the vehicle was not operating in auto-pilot mode, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.
Officer Adam Lobsinger, a San Francisco police spokesman, said evidence obtained indicated the vehicle’s auto-pilot feature was not in operation at the time of the crash. Police are obtaining search warrants to get additional evidence and have also removed a data storage device from the Tesla.
The suspect, 21-year-old Kelsey Cambridge, allegedly drove the Tesla through a red light, hitting another car and then hitting a married couple on the sidewalk, killing Benjamin Dean and leaving his wife with further injuries.
Cambridge was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter and running a red light.
