March 3, 2017—A new study from Indeed.com revealed that, in many cities across the U.S., small businesses are looking to hire employees with considerably more experience, aka the baby boomer generation.
Data from Indeed.com shows that despite millennials taking over the workforce, small businesses are still looking to fill their employment rosters with baby boomers. The Pew Research Center reported that in 2015, the population consisted of 75 million millennials and 75 million baby boomers. By 2028, boomers are expected to fall to 65 million. Just eight years later, boomers will decline further to 50 million, while millennials steadily rise to 81 million.
Grand Rapids, Mich., ranked highest as the city most demanding baby boomer help, Indeed reported. Houston, Oklahoma City and Cleveland also ranked high among heartland cities where businesses are seeking baby boomers, according to the report. Jacksonville, Fla., and New Orleans also made the top 10 in Indeed’s list.
