Strategizing to Hire Repair Talent

May 6, 2022

It's important to keep many factors in mind when recruiting talent in the repair industry.

May 6, 2022—Vehicle technology is a constant presence in the automotive aftermarket and has drastically changed the structure of the industry overall, including how shops approach recruitment.

According to Forbes, the talent being hired into shops needs to meet the demands of the industry, both now and into the future. In order to achieve this, there needs to be a balance of both innovation and tradition.

Forbes shares four ways of cementing this balance: through adaption, diversity, curiosity, and resilience.

Adaptability refers to the executives in the automotive industry. The individuals being hired at this level should have an open mind about new ways of doing business. Areas of focus for executives could include components such as software, which Stellantis recently announced is going to be a focus for them going forward.

Diversity in the industry aims to mitigate bias in all areas and include a push toward inclusion. According to Forbes, diversity can improve individual performance and post better results for the whole business.

Curiosity seeks to incorporate new ideas and encourage learning opportunities. This could pertain to educating technicians on vehicle technology, implementing new processes in a shop, or looking at opportunities outside of the industry that could aid in recruitment.

Resilience refers to the concept that change is inevitable. Individuals in this industry should be willing to tackle these challenges head-on.

Navigating the future of automotive repair is made easier with a trustworthy team, and it is important to take a well-rounded approach to find talent that fits the motivation of the workforce.
