$8.5 Million of Volkswagen Settlement Will Go to Clean Energy Projects

The effort is supporting clean transportation projects with funding from a share of the $118.5 million settlement with Volkswagen.

August 8, 2019—Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf announced 34 cleaner energy transportation projects to receive upwards of $8.5 million in Driving PA Forward grants and rebates for clean energy transportation projects funded by the state's share of the settlement with the Volkswagen Group of America, reports Green Car Congress.

Replacing older engines with new technologies are expected to prevent emission of 503 tons of nitrogen oxides, 130 tons of carbon monoxide, 238 tons of carbon dioxide, 59 tons of hydrocarbons, 30 tons of fine particulate matter, and a half-ton of coarse particulate matter.

Driving PA Forward launched in 2018 in order to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions in Pennsylvania by 27,700 tons. The effort is supporting clean transportation projects with funding from the $118.5 million settlement with Volkswagen.
