March 9, 2015—Tesla Motors has turned the industry’s collective head with its energy efficient vehicles. It has also rankled many vehicle dealership associations with its straight-to-consumer retail model.
And it’s now turning to legislation to be able to pursue that model in Connecticut.
According to a report in the Hartford Courant , Tesla is backing two separate bills that aim to alter Connecticut state law and allow the electric vehicle maker to sell cars in the state.
Currently, Connecticut state law prohibits any company from selling vehicles without a new-car-dealer or used-car-dealer license issued by the state. Also, automakers are not allowed to obtain those licenses, according to the Courant report.
House Bill 6682 and Senate Bill 198 would alter both those laws.
