June 3, 2013—Only one in six U.S. drivers is knowledgeable about basic tire care, according to a new survey from the Rubber Manufacturers Association.
The survey also found that young drivers ages 18-39 are less likely to know basic tire care compared to older drivers. Only 8 percent of young drivers know basic tips for properly checking tire pressure, compared to 27 percent of drivers ages 60 and older.
The survey also found that men are more likely than women to be know basic tire care, with about 20 percent of men and 14 percent of women considered “tire smart.”
The survey identifies “tire smart” drivers as those who know to check tire pressure monthly, to check tires when they are cold, and know where to find the correct inflation pressure for their vehicle’s tires.
