June 20, 2018—Volvo is urging auto industry suppliers to rev up their recycled plastics offering, and is attempting to be a trendsetter in its own right.

According to businessgreen.com, Volvo Cars recently announced a new target to ensure that at least 25 percent of the plastics used in its vehicles are made from recycled materials by 2025. The OEM confirmed the new goal on Monday, as it aims to inspire suppliers to increase their use of recycled plastics.

With hybrid technology offered for nearly every Volvo new model, the OEM is seeking to become one of the leaders in the realm of electrified vehicles, which is what brings recycled plastics into the picture. Volvo’s new plan for featuring an increase in recycled materials is exemplified with the special XC60 T8 PHEV SUV, which features a number of plastic components with equivalents made of recycled materials, as noted in a report by motor1.com.

Volvo, which has made clear its plans to minimize its global environmental footprint, announced last month that it will eradicate single-use plastics across all its premises and events by the end of next year.
