Dec. 13, 2018—Midas in Plattsburgh, N.Y., will close up shop, according to the Press-Republican. The owner, Stuart Laidman, is closing the 40-year-old business after taking over in 2005, the publication reports.

"I had to decide whether I wanted to sign up for another 20 years," Stuart told the Press-Republican. "I love to scuba dive, I love to ski and I love to restore old cars—so I think I've got enough to do in my retirement."

"So, do it now or do it later? I think I'd like to do it now."

According to the Press-Republican, the shop will close on Friday, Dec. 14. In order to prepare longtime customers for the retirement, the Press-Republican reports that Stuart sent letters to homes of familiar faces at the shop.

"I got a huge response out of it," Stuart said to the Press-Republican. "Five to ten people a day that are my regular customers come in, their bottom lip is usually sticking out a little bit and they're upset.  It's kind of a profound experience for me. That's in my mind my best accomplishment here—I feel like I'm a friend to a lot of my customers."
