April 7, 2021—The Oakland Community College (OCC) automobile service program has achieved national accreditation by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence Education Foundation, C&G Newspapers reported.

“We are just so pleased,” OCC Dean of Engineering, Manufacturing and Industrial Technology Jolene Chapman told the publication. “We were told to not expect to get the accreditation on the first try, because it’s pretty tough to get. We were confident in the program. It’s a very strong program. We feel very fortunate to have achieved accreditation on the first pass.”

The accreditation is good for a five-year period, with a compliance review required at the halfway point to ensure that standards are being upheld. The application process took about a year with delays due to COVID-19.

The program is partnered with the National Coalition of Certification Centers and Mopar/Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
