Washington D.C. Vehicles Older Than Average

July 3, 2019

The average age is 11.8 years, while D.C.’s average is 13.2.

July 3, 2019—According to research from the business information provider, IHS Markit, the average age of a vehicle in Washington D.C. is 13.2 years, where the national average is 11.8 years, reports WTOP.

This older age is due to cars being built better and vehicles spending more time with their original owners, largely because of options for auto loans that are six years or longer.

The aging of America’s vehicles is great news for the auto repair industry.

“It simply means more parts and service repair opportunities for vehicles on the road,” Mark Seng of IHS Markit said. “When you look these oldest vehicles, there will be almost 23 million vehicles that will be 25 years or older by 2023. That’s just a great trend for the independent aftermarket.”
