Trump, EU Commision President Agree to Work Toward Zero Tariffs

July 26, 2018—President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker agreed to work toward eliminating tariffs and barriers on trade, reducing tensions for now in a possible trade war, CNN reports.

Recently, Trump has threatened a 25 percent tariff on European autos, a warning that seems to have been staved off.

"We agreed today, first of all, to work together toward zero tariffs, zero non-tariff barriers and zero subsidies on non-auto industrial goods," Trump said.

Yesterday, two senators introduced a bipartisan bill to delay Trump’s potential 25 percent tariff on foreign automobiles. This legislation would delay the tariffs until after the U.S. International Trade Commission presented a report to Congress on effects the tariff would have on jobs in the U.S. automotive industry.
