April 9, 2018—Mercedes-Benz is the latest carmaker to face class claims of shattering sunroofs, after a California driver filed suit Friday in state court saying that the company knows of the problem but hasn’t seen fit to warn drivers, reported Law360.
Giorgio Enea, a JetBlue pilot who lives in Alameda County, says an incident in which the panoramic sunroof on his GLA SUV shattered is emblematic of a problem that has faced an entire class of Mercedes drivers in California.
Enea leased his 2015 GLA250 in mid-July 2015. On June 27, 2017, he was driving to work “when the sunroof spontaneously exploded,” he says. Glass went everywhere, including his eyes and hair, he says. He missed days of work and, because of his profession, had to be cleared by a doctor to return, he said, according to the report.
