Obama Sets Deadline for New Truck Fuel-Efficiency Standards

Feb. 20, 2014

February 20, 2014—President Obama on Tuesday ordered the Environmental Protection Agency to develop and implement new fuel-efficiency standards for medium and heavy-duty trucks by March 2016.

According to a report in the New York Times, the new regulations on greenhouse gas pollution from trucks, along with previous rules for passenger cars and light trucks, should enable President Obama to meet his target of cutting carbon pollution in the U.S. by 17 percent from 2005 levels by 2020.

The report stated that the new regulations will be drafted by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Transportation Department by March 2015 and completed a year later.
