Tesla Recalls Model X for Third Row Seat Issue

April 12, 2016—Tesla Motors announced Monday in an email to affected owners that it was issuing a voluntary recall for the Model X for an issue with the vehicle’s third row seat. 

All affected models are in the U.S. 

An internal strength test revealed that the third row seat recliner would unexpectedly slip, which in a crash could cause the seat back to move forward. 

Tesla said it worked with the outside supplier of the recliner part to develop a new recliner design that solves the issue, but until the new parts can be installed Tesla asked owners to not have anyone sit in the third row for the sake of safety. Tesla said the recall should be completed over the next five weeks.
