Feb. 13, 2015—TowerSec ECUSHIELD has been developed to stop vehicle cyber threats with the new wave of autos coming onto the market, according to a release from the company.
"ECUSHIELD is the only tested and proven software security solution available for immediate deployment," Saar Dickman, TowerSec CEO, said in a release. "We invested years of research and engineering effort in developing this product. It detects and prevents cyber threats on vehicles in real time and can be integrated into existing and future vehicles with no redesign. It is available for less than $10 a vehicle."
Protecting vehicles from cyber threats is a major issue. A just-released report by Sen. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) addresses the need for automotive cyber security as modern technologies open the door to hackers.
While agreeing with Sen. Markey that new standards are needed to bridge security and privacy gaps in cars and trucks, Dickman pointed out there is much more "under the hood" in terms of providing cyber security for future vehicles than is publicly known.
TowerSec has running projects with automakers and suppliers that integrate ECUSHIELD technology into vehicles.
Once integrated into a CAN-BUS accessible ECU or telematics control unit, ECUSHIELD provides continuous monitoring while identifying new threats to the vehicle. It prevents malicious communication from reaching mission-critical systems inside the vehicle that could put lives and personal data at risk, the company said.
With ECUSHIELD no redesign is needed. It can be integrated into new and used vehicles, including fleets. It turns any ECU into an Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDS/IPS) system and any gateway ECU into a smart firewall.
TowerSec was recently named the Hottest Startup in 2015 at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) for its work on automotive cyber security.
