Oct. 28, 2013—Federal-Mogul Corporation’s Powertrain Segment has developed a versatile new harness protection sleeve, FastWrap 2305, designed with multiple benefits including abrasion resistance, flexibility and ease of application.
FastWrap is designed to protect wire harnesses in a vehicle from exposed edges or mechanical abrasion when it comes in contact with other components. The product uses a patent-pending fabric made from polyester monofilament and multifilament yarns, rated up to 150 degrees celsius, resistant to all normal engine fluids and is flexible to ease installation.
"FastWrap's novel construction not only makes installation quicker and more accurate, but the unique adjustable overlap design accommodates considerable variation in wire bundle diameter, allowing vehicle manufacturers to meet all their abrasion protection requirements," said Cassie Malloy, product development team leader for Federal-Mogul Systems Protection. "This wrappable, self-adhesive design covers all wire bundle diameters from 8 mm to 40 mm with just three product sizes."
The product, which comes in flat packaging for ease of storage, includes two adhesive strips; the first to assist the operator by adhering the wire harness together, and the second to ensure full protection without the need for additional tape or ties.
