Volkswagen Creates Mobile App to Assist Technicians

Oct. 3, 2013

Oct. 3, 2013—Volkswagen recently announced its plans to unveil an iOS mobile application, MARTA, which uses augmented reality to help technicians repair and customize Volkswagen vehicles at the InsideAR conference in Munich, Germany, on Oct. 11.

MARTA (Mobile Augmented Reality Technical Assistance) uses augmented reality to create a computer-generated view of the car being repaired that allows technicians to see individual parts and watch the repair process unfold on the screen in real time. The app overlays the step-by-step process, similar to a GPS directing a driver along a designated route.

The app can also guide technicians through the process of installing customer accessories and modifications.

Volkswagen will be revealing all the details of MARTA at InsideAR.
