June 10, 2013—With U.S. vehicle sales predicted to reach as high as 15.5 million in 2013, the auto industry is expected to go on a hiring spree to accommodate the demand.
According to the AP, factories are operating at about 95 percent of capacity, which has some auto and parts companies adding positions, floor space, and new equipment.
The Center for Automotive Research expects the industry to add 35,000 jobs over the full year. From January through May, the industry hired 8,000 workers, the AP reported.
Manufacturers such as Chrysler, Honda, General Motors, Mercedes Benz and Ford plan to add more than 13,000 people this year.
In addition, large parts companies and even smaller suppliers are also adding jobs, the AP says.
Among these positions include skilled workers, such as engineers, machinists, software developers and welders.
