Vehicle Data Access Caucus Launched

Sept. 30, 2022

The caucus will examine how data is collected from vehicles and used in order to frame guidelines for cybersecurity.

Sept. 30, 2022—Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) announced via his website a new bipartisan initiative called the Vehicle Data Access Caucus. The caucus aims to bring attention to vehicle data privacy, security, and access that ultimately could lead to federal legislation around the control and use of collected vehicle data.

Carter stated in a letter that he hopes to "work collaboratively and on a bipartisan basis to weigh the positions of these stakeholders and come up with draft vehicle data access legislation that will be supported through regular order."

Caucus supporters include the American Rental Car Association, National Consumers League, Automotive Recyclers Association, the Automotive Service Association, and the NAFA Fleet Management Association.
